So I’d first like to introduce everyone in the network that hasn’t met Liz Whitehurst to her.
:Insert Faux Introduction Here:
She is the new Americorps VISTA that will be working closely with us this upcoming year with New Site Development. She’s really great and I hope everyone gets a chance to meet her over the next year.
That being said, I just took Liz down to the Campus Kitchen here at Gonzaga College High School to be part of her first cooking shift. She already has done a delivery shift at Northwestern (Yaay!). Anyway, Erin Y. and I had been talking about how integral playing music and mixed CD’s were to Campus Kitchens across the country. And as it turns out, they were playing music at the cooking shift.
Well…if you can call it music. I’m still not sure what song it was, but it sounded like bad 80′s music with a electric piano and a female singing something very high pitched. It got me to thinking though. What else could volunteers be listening to across the board at volunteer shifts?
I’d like to invite each Campus Kitchen to nominate a “Song of the Day” in the comment section. Later this week I’ll compile all the songs, I’ll post them in another post and we’ll vote accordingly. In turn we’ll compile an official CKP Mixed CD and hopefully find a way to get a copy out to each Campus Kitchen once we have enough songs.
In light of the notion, I’d like to start the nominations with:
Avril Lavigne’s Complicated, please mock accordingly.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI believe the song Jordan is referring to is Madonna’s Holiday from 1983. Although he makes disparaging remarks, the sweet dance moves of the GCHS volunteer team convince me that this should be the CKP Song of the Day…every day.
Oh, I’m so tempted to pick the most obscure song I can… but instead I’ll go with something only slightly off the radar: “Barrier Reef” by Old 97s. It is AWESOME.
I am voting for Copacabana by Barry Manilow. It’s over the top and I love it!
First, in reference to the Avril Lavigne Song…yeeessss!
Second, the song of the day (which is my song every day): “Three Little Birds” Bob Marley and the Wailers
I know this is “Song of the Day” theme, but many of CKNU meals shifts have songs by The Beatles, CCR, Madonna, and Elton John…at least when I run the shifts.
Can’t wait for the CKP CD compilation! I hope it includes many 80s songs.
