We have seen some really great posts go up over the last few weeks about everything from partner agencies to comedy shows. Today we want to hear about what your Campus Kitchens are making.
What was the craziest donation that you’ve ever received?
Here at CKP we’ve received some crazy things over the years and we know you guys have the insight to share them with us. I’ll get things started, in honor of the first food drive done in 2001. A jar of pickled cactus was donated, Nopalitos. What seemed to be something that no one really knew how to use has become an icon of CKP. Quarterly an award goes out to the most innovative CK member that shows innovation in programming, sustainability and/or student development.
Tell us your stories, donations and crazy innovative things that you’ve done with food below. We can’t wait to hear.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackThis is soooo easy! The craziest donation CKNU has received are boxes and boxes and boxes of Y2K dehydrated food. Cleary, Y2K did not occur, so we received a hefty donation. They were donated in the Spring of 2008 and we’re slowing chipping away at this donation. We used some corn kernels in vegetable stir fry and put some in the TurkeyPalooza stuffing. This week for part of Heart Healthy February, we’re making Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal packets. Oats and dried apples courtesy of Y2K donations!
One of the craziest donation that CKSLU has received was over 100 pounds of tofu. Now some of you might be excited by tofu, personally I love it. My clients however would probably have rebelled against the kitchen if I started serving straight up tofu. Our challenge was to be able to hide it in other foods and season it to taste good. So we made a lot of meatloaf, sloppy joes, and casseroles. It was a fun challenge, but occasionally we had to lie about what we were serving.
This is more of a future crazy donation. Tomorrow I am looking at a warehouse full of Splenda that will soon be mine! By the way, do packets of splenda count as a dessert?
