Hungry for more news? I’ve been coming across plenty of news CKP can use, so here’s an extra helping of our weekly digest.

Need grows for seniors’ meals: Campus Kitchens who deliver to homebound seniors in your communities already know about the need to feed our grandparents. In Hawaii over the weekend, grandparents and grandkids alike marched on the capital to demand continued funding for the Lanakila Meals on Wheels. (Found out about this story at the Poverty News Blog.)

Going the Distance to Shorten it: Check out food justice organization UEPI’s blog post on the Fourth National Farm to Cafeteria Conference. Where does CKP fit in here?

From the Ranks of the Jobless, a Flood of Volunteers: Is this a phenomenon we’re seeing at Campus Kitchens? In this New York Times piece, folks who are suddenly unemployed find fulfillment in volunteer work–but can nonprofits find enough work for them to do?

Flock to fast food to stretch your paycheck? Alice Waters, a supporter of DCCK and a leader in the Slow Food movement recently featured on 60 Minutes, and Melina Shannon-Dipietro of the Yale Sustainable Food Project talk good food for cheap. I think the following pretty much sums up their argument, and CKP volunteers are already doing it every day of the week.

Let’s cook dinner.
