Of all the awesome, exciting events I’ve been hearing and writing about at Campus Kitchens, nothing has made me want to jump on a train/plane/automobile more than the UVM Food Summit, which starts tonight.

As someone who is fascinated/excited/inspired by the student movements for just, sustainable food, I’m so glad to see Campus Kitchens making connections with groups like Slow Food on Campus  and the Real Food Challenge

I think if we want to address an issue as complex as hunger, we have to analyze it on multiple levels, look critically at it from all angles. Young farmers and Campus Kitchens chefs, Kombucha brewers and senior citizens, food stamp beneficiaries and gleaning volunteers: I love to think about what would happen if we all worked together.

That’s why I see enormous potential in an event like the Food Summit at UVM: it’s an opportunity to make connections and as a result, make real change.

I haven’t even mentioned the contra dance. or the eat-in. or the movies. or farm visits. or the talk by DCCK founder Robert Egger.

Anyone up for hitching to Vermont?
