Last week we told you about Detroit’s food deserts. This week, we bring happier news: 25 nonprofits received surprise grants of $25,000 each in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan.

Hope in a flagging economy: Boston-based Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America is giving a boost to the Charlotte, NC community with its plan to create 500 jobs in the next four weeks. That’s good news for job seekers and in-need individuals alike.
