Campus kitchens get greener everyday. Some plant seeds in their community gardens. Others glean food from farmer’s markets. With the New Year, the Campus Kitchen at Gettysburg College made a green resolution too: replacing Styrofoam meal containers with reusable plastic ones – saving them money and waste.

Every time volunteers plate their individual meals to send out on delivery, they pack the entrée and sides into a manageable plastic box that snaps shut and allows for three separate storage compartments. With prices ranging from $2.45 to $4.55 per box, the reusable containers are a cost-effective (and biodegradable!) option.
