Description:
The DC Central Kitchen is seeking a Development and Communications Associate for daily fundraising and communications departmental duties. Responsibilities include website news updates, design of new web pages, editing of older web pages; graphic design of bi-annual appeals, annual report and other materials for distribution; manage printing and production schedule of appeals and other print materials; database management, donor stewardship; assistance in special event production and identifying potential corporate and individual donors.

The successful candidate will be a socially conscious, enthusiast of the non-profit world, with a strong interest in fighting hunger and homelessness. Candidate should have at least a Bachelors degree, 1- 2 years experience in the non-profit world, with skills in graphic and web design, strong writing abilities, excellent communication skills and attention to detail, and. Fundraising experience and/or enthusiasm required with the ability to roll with the changes.

Responsibilities:

Coordinate with the Communications Manager to manage the direct mail campaigns, including design, layout and identifying the target donor group; analyze their results and suggest follow-up plan. This includes 2 large direct mail campaigns per year, about 5,000 pieces in total for DCCK and CKP, and various smaller in-house, personalized campaigns for events and donor outreach.
-Oversee design, editing, production, and distribution of 2 Annual Reports (CKP and DCCK), as well as various other promotional materials throughout the year.
-Assist Events Manager with planning and design of Capital Food Fight and -Sound Bites promotional materials, including the design of logos, posters, postcards, web pages, etc.
-Update the DC Central Kitchen, The Campus Kitchens Project, and Fresh Start Catering website. Research, write, and post news stories and photographs; re-design outdated pages.
Lead/assist the design of new websites and blogs for different departments and/or events.
-Oversee management of donor database with focus on proper donor stewardship, coding of donations, weekly gift entry, and thank you letter generating. Provide monthly reports for analysis and various donor lists for mailings. Oversee part time intern.
-Reconcile donor database with finance database monthly.
-Help identify new individual and corporate donor prospects.
-Plan and execute fundraising and cultivation events such as the Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Walkathon and donor recognition events.
-Represent DC Central Kitchen at community and networking events.
-Oversee departmental internships during school year and summer—offering enriching educational experience while also effectively delegating daily tasks.

Additional Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required,preferably in Graphic/Web Design and Technology.

Must be proficient in Adobe CS4.
Strong attention to detail and proven organizational and project management skills.
Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and respond to short notice deadlines.
High degree of initiative; flexible, high energy, positive, “can-do” team player.
Experience with data management and database systems.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Commitment to community service and social services (hunger, homelessness, unemployment) Must be proficient in Microsoft Office software
