What do you get when you cross documentary film, delicious food and beverages from Birch & Barley, and Culinary Job Training students from D.C. Central Kitchen? The Silverdocs “Sneak Preview” party, held Monday, June 7 in Birch & Barley’s sunlit, open dining room.

The party brought together independent storytellers from around the globe and their fans to celebrate the kickoff of the festival, which takes place June 21 to 27. Silverdocs, an annual documentary festival put on by AFI and the Discovery Channel, is held in downtown Silver Spring, Md. and gathers around 25,000 festival attendees.

This year Birch &  Barley and D.C. Central Kitchen will help celebrate the seven days of independent thought, serving food and beverages to VIP rooms at the screenings in addition to the Culinary Job Training student’s participation in the preview party.

So what did filmmakers and friends get to sample from Birch & Barley, which was just named best new restaurant at the 2010 RAMMY awards? Among the fare: flatbreads, fried risotto balls, lamb sliders, shrimp pops, and oysters topped with fresh apple and radishes.
