Each year, D.C. Central Kitchen, the parent organization of The Campus Kitchens Project, puts on a one-of-a-kind, foodie fundraiser. Read below.
It’s that time of year again. Time to gather national and local (to Washington, D.C.) restaurant personalities, give them a few knives and microphones to play with, pack them in the Ronald Raegan building rotunda along with hundreds of hungry foodies – and see what kind of magic they can put on your plate.
Capital Food Fight 2010 – the major fundraising event behind D.C. Central Kitchen – promises all the star chef names of years past and some of the biggest restaurants yet, with a nod to the latest Washington D.C. Top Chef series, powerhouse culinary judge Tom Colicchio, to top it all off.
Tickets for the November 11 event, which usually sells out, are on sale now on the Capital Food Fight website. With the $200 ticket, guests gain entry to the Ronald Raegan building rotunda where they can browse and devour food from 50-60 of the area’s most prestigious restaurants, with unlimited beverages. The event typically runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m.
All of the event proceeds go to D.C. Central Kitchen, a hunger-relief organization that uses food as a tool to strengthen the Washington, D.C. community. Through job training, meal distribution, and supporting local food systems, DC Central Kitchen provides solutions to the interconnected problems of poverty, hunger, and homelessness.
What’s a Capital Food Fight, perse? Four of Washington D.C.’s chefs, who are currently on top of their culinary game, duke-it-out to serve the most delicious-tasting dish, in groups of two, with one secret ingredient. The winners then go on to compete with each other in a bid to bring home bragging rights. If that’s not enough like a live-reality TV cooking show, then throw in personalities like co-hosts Jose Andres (Think Food Group, Bravo) and Anthony Bourdain (No Reservations), give them the microphones, and all kinds of aromas break loose. Judges Tom Colicchio and Michael Mina (last year’s champ) round out the feast.
Start prepping your appetite for dishes from the likes of: 1789 Restaurant, Charlie Palmer Steak, Equinox Restaurant, Hank’s Oyster Bar, Jaleo, Kaz Sushi Bistro, Poste Moderne, Brasserie, Westend Bistro by Eric Ripert, and many others.
