In like a lion, out like a … well, lion.
March 31, 2010 – 9:37 amMarch has been a difficult month for our lovely Commonwealth. In fact, due to this roaring weather, Governor Deval Patrick has declared a statewide State of Emergency and mobilized the National Guard in response to the impact of the recent heavy rains which have caused beach erosion, major flooding, and widespread road closures. This is the most rain March has ever seen here and we’re running out of sandbags! My fingers are crossed for a less wet April; we’ve had enough showers, please and thank you Mother Nature!
In preparing my monthly report for the national office, I’m proud to say that during March, CKUMB donated a whopping 260 pounds of food to our clients at the ELC-East! For a new program in our second month of operations, I’m pretty pleased. We also met five new volunteers this month who were wonderfully helpful and interested in coming back to keep working with us. That is one of my favorite parts of this position — meeting new students. Everyone has a story and I’m nosey enough to pry it out of them. Ah, the lasting bond of friendship.
I’m very much looking forward to April. CKUMB will be opening our community garden at ELC-East (see post below!), farmers’ markets open, flowers bloom, and (the most important) it’s my birthday month! And yes, I do plan to celebrate for the entire month. It’s my birthday and I’ll do what I want! (ahem, eat cake, drink too many gallons of diet coke, buy shoes?)
In keeping the “lion” theme, if you haven’t seen this video, YOU MUST. It’ll warm the shackles of your itty bitty heart:
Happy March 31st!
