Volunteers, Love, & Gratitude
August 26, 2010 – 9:41 amSometimes I forget that my student leaders are volunteers… and students… and employees… and have families and personal lives. Basically, I forget that they don’t exist for the purpose of CKUMB (perhaps clones?)
I remember when I was in college (oh, the glorious days of being a student!) and I would think resentfully, “Does this professor think his class is the only class I have?!” Ironically, it turns out that I’m that person – that my students EAT, BREATHE, and LIVE for CKUMB. Perhaps this is because this position is still new to me and when I’m here, I’m all about the organization and then I go home and bounce ideas off my husband, and when I get in bed at night, I find myself mentally making lists of what I need to tomorrow, what I should be doing, etc.
Do you still want to keep reading even though I’m a crazed maniac? You do? Good. Phew.
Yes, it’s a touch obsessive but I do love what I do and am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with students and hopefully create some form of impact on our community. So today, this post is for those students who I drown with deadlines, overwhelm with e-mail (how I love e-mail), and consistently push to help me grow this organization – you know who you are! We couldn’t exist without you and the time you dedicate to CKUMB and we’ve only gotten better for it.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
This sentiment just doesn’t seem like enough. The school year is about to begin and the work you’ve done prepping to welcome students & putting together a world-class carnival is more valuable than words can describe. I hope that you can feel my gratitude every time we have a group or one-on-one meeting, e-mail or phone call. Again, thank you, thank you, thank you.
And now I shall get back to working (and sending e-mail), more grateful than ever to be here.
