Welcome to USG/UMES Spring ’09 semester!
Volunteer with Campus Kitchens!
Campus Kitchens will meet every 3rd Thursday and Saturday of each month.
We meet on Thursdays from 11:30 A.M-2:00 P.M. and Saturdays from 8:00A.M. - 10:30A.M.
*We need up to 10 volunteers for each day. We will be doing most of the cooking on Thursdays and packing on Saturdays. E-mail mcvargas@umes.edu as soon as possible to reserve your spot.

The Campus Kitchen at UMES/Universities of Maryland at Shady Grove (USG) comes together to provide families in The Dwelling Place with over 200 delicious meals. The Dwelling Place provides transitional housing and support services for families in Montgomery County. Along with low cost housing, the Dwelling Place offers programs helping them to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency. The goal of the Dwelling Place is “Ending Homelessness one Family at a Time.”
Campus Kitchen Program at USG is part of a national program of universities and high schools. The CKP mission is to use service as a tool to:
- Strengthen Bodies by using existing resources to meet hunger and nutritional needs in our community.
- Empower Minds by providing leadership and service learning opportunities to students, and educational benefits to adults, seniors, children, and families in need; and
- Building Communities by fostering a new generation of community-minded adults through resourceful and mutually beneficial partnership among students, social services agencies, business, and schools.
