Student-Powered Hunger Relief

Vote for the next Campus Kitchen!

The College of Saint Elizabeth, University of Southern Maine, and Utah State University each want to bring a Campus Kitchen to their school! For this Launch Grant Competition, we awarded three $5,000 grants plus an extra $1,500 to help develop and implement Beyond the Meals programming (BTM). The Campus Kitchens Project believes that food alone will never end hunger. Because of this, we encourage all of our Campus Kitchens to go a step beyond the meals they provide to community members and develop a program to target one of the root causes of poverty.

From April 30- May 8, thousands of votes were cast for the school (or schools) you think will have the biggest impact in their community if they launched a Campus Kitchen.

First Place: $6,000 (including $1,000 for BTM programming)
Second Place: $5,500 (including $500 for BTM programming)
Third Place: $5,000

These schools qualified for this competition by working through our Campus Kitchen Planner, which provides step-by-step guidance to any group interested in bringing our program to their campus. If you’re interested in learning more, contact Alex Peterson (
